There's a new style of cowgirl in Arizona, her name is Flora Jessop and she escaped from polygamy when she was a teenager. I've seen a documentary about her on the WE channel, how she travels to Utah and northern Arizona to help other girls who are trying to get away from their fundamentalist families and live a normal life. It's a dangerous occupation; she says she's had all kinds of threats and even attempts on her life (if I remember correctly) The WE channel replays this show every once in a while, and I just saw it two days ago.
As we were making our way to the airport, to leave for Minnesota, Buster told me we needed to stop at a lady's house to give her some clothing donations for her cause. He briefly mentioned that she works with girls who have fled Colorado City (polygamous town in Northern Arizona)
When we pulled into her driveway, she appeared and my jaw hit the pavement. This is the gal I saw on the WE channel documentary. Flora Jessop. Waaaay cool.
We unloaded boxes full of clothing onto her front patio, talked briefly about the weather, and moved on. I was so excited to have met Flora, she's truly someone who is doing something to make the world a little bit better. It's not an easy job, and I commend her for it.
