Governor Perry

I have never had luck posting links in my blog but I will at least cut and paste the address to the story:
http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1891829,00.html?imw=Y

Governor Perry, of Texas, shouted out something that's been whispered across the Southwest for a little while now: "Secession."
I've also heard that Chuck Norris has vowed that he would definitely serve as President of Texas when the secession happens. Would this ever happen? Who knows.
I for one am a true believer in the State's rights. Each state has its own laws, and they should all operate independantly of the Federal Government. Say for instance a state votes that medicinal marijuana is legal, as long as physicians control it. Fine, except the Federal laws supercede what the state laws govern and the physicians and patients end up hiding from the Feds. Do you know how many states have voted for medical marijuana? Several. But as long as the Feds are against it, it doesn't happen. People with debilitating pain are sneaking around trying not to get busted. That's pitiful.

But I found it a little amusing that in the article they mention that Governor Perry is 60 years old but..."telegenic and youthful," Why don't they just say it like it is? He's a FOX. That picture on the article doesn't do him justice. I have one that I took during the Republican National Convention when they were addressing the hurricane that was threatening the Gulf States. Gov Perry appeared on the big screens and when he did there was a collective "sigh" from all the females in the room.

Sigh.

Relay For Life Lake Havasu

So proud to have been a tiny little part of the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life again. This is an annual fundraiser that takes place all over the world to raise money for Cancer Research, programs, and education. My first year of involvement I was the Chair, and our committee and teams managed to raise over $60,000. My second year as Chair was last year, and we raised somewhere around $55,000. This year I had to cut back my responsibilities so I did Publicity only, but luckily we had a HUGE Committee of volunteers to take up the slack.

Opening ceremonies begin at 6pm, and we always have a presentation of colors and national anthem.

We had a military theme this year, and I was really excited to see what people did with their campsites to go with that. And all the CAMO!!! I was in heaven. Of course I had a full camo outfit that Steve got me at a military surplus.

Throughout the night, there's fundraisers and activities on the track and on the infield. I did have to try the chin-up bar. I got three consecutive chin-ups. I was nervous because there was a Marine and Air Force guy standing there watching.

The Luminary Ceremony, where hundreds of white bags with candles are decorated by individuals and placed around the track. They are in honor of those who have been fighting cancer and in memory of those who have died. Everyone gathers near the stage for the ceremony that has a slide show of names being honored or remembered.

The HOPE Luminaries on the bleachers are changed to say CURE:

Will, Larry, and I took a jaunt on the Segway scooters that were onsite. We've all determined we NEED one of these:

Walking continues all night, with closing ceremonies at 8am on Saturday. I came home sometime around midnight so I could get a little rest and be fresh for the BIG responsibility: track clean up.
Well, and also I had over 300 pictures to upload to my laptop and crop. I need to get them on a disk so everyone on the committee can send them out to family and friends. Big event, lots of fun.
I will keep you posted on what the fundraising totals were this year.

My Cat Is An Illegal Alien

Kitty Meow Meow, or, KM sqared, has done a very bad job of laying low. I have figured him out. He's an illegal alien.

How do I know?

Well, he "appeared" out of nowhere 3 1/2 years ago, in the back yard. No I.D., begging for food, pretending to be a harmless cat.

But after several years, I've noticed that he flat out refuses to learn English, he doesn't work, and he depends on the charity of others (me) to provide food and medical treatment. He stays out all night, probably partying, and he sleeps most of the day. Oh and speaking of food, I think he's sending cat food back to his family in whatever country they're in because there's no possible way one cat is consuming that much. And just like the illegals we see everywhere else, Kitty Meow Meow has strange bathroom behaviors. I'll explain. In many portions of Mexico, there's not a sufficient sewer to handle a lot of toilet use. So when you use a toilet you're expected to throw your used toilet paper in a trashcan and only flush when you absolutely have to. When the illegals come here from Mexico, they assume the sewer situation is the same. And they leave behind "evidence," in the trash can. Kitty doesn't do that, exactly, but it's something similar.

I have decided that he needs to be legal, so I'm beginning the paperwork process. The easiest thing would be to find an American Citizen cat for him to marry, but I don't know any other cats. Hmmmm....

Tax Day Tea Party

Shay and I led the pack of protesters across the London Bridge for Lake Havasu's Tax Day Tea Party. Steve's brother was the guitarist, with his new band. They played a couple of songs in between speeches. I was, of course, in costume!

Easter Madness

Saw the Easter Black Bear outside the Black Bear Diner on our way to the airport on Sunday. I think it's creepy.

But he THOUGHT he was the only one with the special ears. Sorry!!!!

I wore mine for our flight to Salome. It's a town in between here and Phoenix. Steve's friend has a ranch with a landing strip. A very SHORT landing strip that's flanked by barbed wire fencing. I just about peed myself on the approach. It was scary.
But here's what the strip looked like:

I was mesmerized by Steve's friend's yard, because he has a ton of landscaping and everything was in bloom! Here's a cactus bloom:

And my favorite flower in the whole wide world, a Gardenia:

The flight home was more than a little bumpy, as the wind had decided to gust up to 30 miles per hour. Sheesh. I had to concentrate on not being sick.
I kept my eyes closed for a good portion of the 25 minute flight, since I was getting dizzy. I opened them long enough to take a picture of the London Bridge.

Gee, that's where I'll be tomorrow for the Tea Party. I guess I better write my speech now.
