Recruiting the Youth

When opportunities come up, you can't turn them down simply because you have other things planned. I think it's called multi-tasking.
But then the plans and the opportunities kept changing, so I had to do this thing called "improvising."
I had a six hour drive to make, and a deadline for mailing about 100 packets to people in our county. It had to be printed, folded, stuffed, addressed, stamped, and sent THAT DAY so it would be post marked in time.
But I couldn't make the six hour drive with Steve, he had to leave early in order to get the semi truck parked in a decent place. I had to wait until the printing for the mailing was done, and also I had yet another dentist appointment to get to.

Aha...solution. Shay gets bored on those long drives. So he found himself folding, stuffing, addressing, and stamping all those packets:

Years from now, Shay will be running for Mayor and he can tell his potential voters that he has been involved in the political process since he was 12 years old. And he can show them that picture as proof.

The mailing went out on time, we eventually made it to our destination, and we managed to have some fun as well! Pictures to follow, of course.

George Barris

My new buddy, George Barris. Who is that guy??? Well most "guy guys" know who George is, because they've built models of his creations. They've read about him in all the automotive magazines. But most importantly, they've seen his stuff in movies and on television for the past 50 years.

Remember the General Lee? That's his. Remember K.I.T. from Knight Rider? His. The jalopy from Beverly Hillbillies? His. But his most recognizable creation has to be several of the Batmobile designs.

He's quite an accomplished guy, and when I saw him in L.A. I nearly tackled him. He didn't mind. In fact, he hung around and invited us to come see his shop some time.
I believe I'll be taking him up on that!

The One in the Middle

There's always someone, somewhere, trying to get in the middle. Some ex wife, some ex girlfriend, some old flame, some trash from down the street that won't go away. It has been that way for me my entire adult life. Even in high school, the two or three boyfriends I had were either cheating on me or giving me the impression they were cheating. And it was always with an ex. Both of my marriages hit a brick wall because of another woman. After the fact, I found out the second husband had MANY.

You would think after aging a little bit I could relax because with maturity comes respect from your partner, maybe some genuine appreciation for what's in front of him...
No.
There's always someone trying to wedge themselves in between; sending those emails, facebook messages, text messages, etc,. etc...
And guys are stupid because they FALL FOR IT. "Oh we're just friends."

Sorry, but women do not have a union. In fact, it's the opposite of a union. We don't all follow rules that govern fair practices in relationships. Some women have that sneaky, underhanded m.o. that will ultimately end up in trouble for a couple she sets her sights on.

And every time I start to get comfortable, someone starts using a pry bar to get in the middle.

I could look like this....

But it wouldn't matter.

You know all those romantic comedies where the two exes hate each other but then ultimately they throw everything they have away, get back together and it's oh-so-sweet at the end? I can't stand that stuff.

Unfortunatetly it won't change. If Jennifer Aniston can't keep the other women out of the middle, then neither can I.

Big Meeting

Thursday night was nerve-wracking, because we had this big meeting planned for over a month. It's for the Community Investment Advisory Council that I am serving on, and we needed to have a public forum for citizens to come hear our presentation and give their opinions. I was nervous, I thought we were going to get slaughtered.

I had spent the previous three hours in another meeting, where everyone was arguing and shouting. So I was primed.

I drove up to the meeting place (City Council chambers) and expected to have to push my way into the doorway, because of all the people waiting there for the meeting to begin.

Well, I got a surprise. This is the view from my seat up front:

Not one person showed. Just us members of the committee. Not one person wanted to show up and tear us apart. Okay. Fine.

I Remember The Fear...

He's actually a very nice pit bull, but he didn't want me in that shop at that particular time.

No Dogs Today

This week is the first that I've had time off from dog sitting and cat sitting since mid-July. Seriously. Every day I've been running around feeding, medicating, walking pets, and constantly in the back of my mind I've been worried about forgetting someone. "Isn't there a pet I'm supposed to be walking right now?"

Yes, I've traveled a little, but that's when I use my "employee" of sorts. Steve's brother is always helpful. He walks dogs for beer money.

That little feeling of freedom helped me to take time to think about and focus on other things.

So I accepted the nomination for President of the Republican Women.

Open mouth, insert gun....

Mitzi Dated Robbie Knievel

Steve spends a huge amount of his time "working" at the airport and much of this time is tied up with forwarding jokes. There's a joke going around about Robbie Knievel jumping at an event in Texas (I'm not repeating, it's tacky) and Steve forwarded this to Mitzi and Martin down in Phoenix. We're pretty good friends with them, and whenever we're in Phoenix they graceously let us stay in their beautiful guest room.

So....Mitzi wrote back,
"Hey Steve I bet you didn't know this, I dated Robbie in the 80's!"

Here's where I sit at the computer with my jaw dropped down to the keyboad.
